Birding with Baby and Toddler- Take what you can get

If you want to go birding and you have a four month old and a three year old, take what you can get.

It took us until after noon to hit the trail. Most birders have called it a day by now. Bird activity in the afternoon is… not like it is in the morning. I refer to the slowness of afternoon birding, seemingly true everywhere and in every season, as the afternoon blues. But with two kids to prepare and feeding ourselves, afternoon birding is what we can get.

Still, we got about four hours in the outdoors today. We saw four species of birds of prey in flight, sifted through gulls on a lake while we had a picnic, and even glimpsed a few species of sparrows before they ducked back into the grasses.
